Catalogue Note
A handcrafted wooden spoon of generous proportions, turned from dense, richly figured hardwood with warm reddish-brown grain. The bowl is deeply curved and smoothly finished, the handle tapered and comfortable in the palm. The surface shows gentle wear consistent with kitchen use and age, with a mellow patina that suggests long service in a working kitchen. A sturdy, unpretentious domestic implement of honest workmanship.
Spoon Lore
Wooden spoons have been the workhorse of kitchens for millennia; unlike metal, wood does not conduct heat and will not damage non-stick cookware, making it the cook's first choice even today. Medieval monasteries carved spoons for the refectory, and peasant spoons remain largely unchanged in form since the 14th century.
