Catalogue Note
An Argentinian alpaca-silver tablespoon of substantial proportions, the handle lavishly engraved with scrollwork, foliate panels, and a radiating sunburst motif within a rope-twist border. The bowl is deeply bowled and presents with even patina consistent with age and use; the handle shows expected signs of wear and minor surface scratching befitting a working piece. The ornamental character and weight suggest a quality maker, though hallmarks are not clearly legible in the photograph.
Spoon Lore
The radiating sunburst or 'rising sun' motif is common on South American silverware, where alpaca silver—a copper-nickel-zinc alloy known for its silver-like lustre—was favoured by Argentine silversmiths for ornate domestic tableware in the 20th century.
