Catalogue Note

A bronze ritual spoon of Tibetan character, the circular bowl engraved with concentric scrollwork and flanged lobes in an ornamental border. The handle terminates in an elaborate knotwork plaque, with intervening decoration including auspicious Buddhist motifs throughout. The dark patina suggests age and ceremonial use; the casting and chasing display confident traditional craftsmanship.

Spoon Lore

Bronze ritual spoons were used in Tibetan Buddhist practice for offering substances and temple service. Knotwork and auspicious symbols — among the Ashtamangala — adorned sacred implements, reflecting the spiritual significance embedded in everyday ritual objects.
