Spoon Lore
Niello, an ancient technique perfected by Renaissance craftsmen, experienced a remarkable Victorian revival as wealthy households sought to marry classical decoration with contemporary silver work. Victorian niello spoons were far more labour-intensive than machine-stamped wares, and thus reserved for those of means.
