Catalogue Note
A handsome serving spoon of substantial weight, the elongated bowl rendered with fine hammered texture and graceful proportions. The handle displays exuberant repoussé decoration—scrolling acanthus leaves and full-blown flowers in high relief, with a geometric band at the transition to the bowl. The surface shows expected age patina and minor wear consistent with use, lending character without detracting from the craftwork. A distinguished example of late-Victorian silver flatware.
Spoon Lore
Repoussé, the technique of raising and shaping metal from behind, was labour-intensive but reached peak popularity during the Victorian era, when prosperous households favoured ornate flatware as a mark of refinement and domestic taste.
