Catalogue Note
A fine sterling silver souvenir spoon commemorating the 1904 Louisiana Purchase Exposition held in St. Louis. The handle is ornamented with foliate engraving and terminates in a shaped terminal enamelled in cobalt blue and champlevé with the exposition's Capitol building emblem, date, and stars. The bowl retains period engraving of feathered motifs. Light surface wear and minor oxidation consistent with age and use; enamel work remains vivid and secure.
Spoon Lore
Souvenir spoons from major American expositions—particularly the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition and 1904 Louisiana Purchase Exposition—became a collecting mania among middle-class Americans and remain among the most readily found commemorative spoons in the secondary market today.
