Catalogue Note
A delicate Continental spoon marked 800, indicating high-grade silver of European origin. The bowl is elegantly rounded with a subtle raised rim, whilst the handle displays a restrained beaded or reeded border typical of early twentieth-century manufacture. The struck mark and maker's device (partially legible) suggest Continental European craftsmanship, likely German or Austro-Hungarian. The piece shows light surface wear consistent with age and gentle use, retaining excellent silvery tone and structural integrity.
Spoon Lore
The 800 silver standard—denoting eighty per cent pure silver—became the legal requirement across much of Continental Europe during the nineteenth century, and was particularly favoured in Germany, Austria, and Italy for refined table service and condiment spoons.
