Catalogue Note

A plain Georgian silver tablespoon in the fiddle pattern, with an elongated oval bowl and a handle terminating in the distinctive violin-shaped fiddle terminal. The surface shows the soft patina of age and gentle use. A classic example of early 19th-century English flatware.

Spoon Lore

The fiddle pattern, introduced around 1810, became one of the most popular English flatware patterns of the 19th century. Its distinctive violin-shaped terminal was both elegant and economical to produce, gracing middle-class tables across Britain during the reign of George IV.
